Colby Joseph Davis sees things differently. He’s on a mission to elevate the trades by showing that skilled work is a fulfilling, lucrative career and that those who choose it are professionals, craftsmen and entrepreneurs at heart.

As a teenager, Colby joined his father on plumbing, pool renovation, roofing and painting jobs. That hands-on education taught him the value of hard work and attention to detail. Later, when he launched Davis Painting, he insisted on spotless trucks, matching uniforms and well-organized job sites. He wasn’t just painting houses; he was building a brand and a career path for his crew.

Through Indy Capital and its family of companies, Colby invests in his people and creates opportunities for growth. Employees start out as painters or laborers and can rise to management or even partner status. Colby believes that if you take care of your team and your clients, the trades become a career, not a fallback.

1. Investing in People: Training, mentorship and a clear career ladder show employees there’s a future in the trades. When people feel valued, they stay and grow.

2. Elevating Standards: From branded vehicles to crisp uniforms and tidy job sites, Colby demonstrates that home-service businesses can operate at a premium level.

3. Giving Back: Through #DavisCares, his businesses support local sports teams, schools and nonprofits. He lives by the belief that when you take care of your community, it takes care of you.

Outside of work, Colby enjoys simple pleasures like sushi dinners and taking his Cyber Truck for a spin. These personal touches remind people that entrepreneurs in the trades have passions and families just like everyone else.

From Paintbrush to Portfolio: How Colby Joseph Davis Built a Multi-State Painting Empire and Beyond https://jackwendt.com/from-paintbrush-to-portfolio-how-colby-joseph-davis-built-a-multi-state-painting-empire-and-beyond/ https://jackwendt.com/from-paintbrush-to-portfolio-how-colby-joseph-davis-built-a-multi-state-painting-empire-and-beyond/#respond Tue, 21 Oct 2025 08:50:46 +0000 https://jackwendt.com/?p=5233 Colby Joseph Davis’s story begins where many tradespeople start—holding a brush and bucket. In his teens, Davis worked alongside his father in the plumbing and painting trades and learned firsthand the value of delivering quality workmanship and honest service. Over the years he transformed those lessons into Davis Painting, a company that has become one of the fastest-growing residential and commercial painting firms in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

But Davis didn’t stop with paint. Recognizing that the home-services sector was fragmented and ripe for consolidation, he founded Indy Capital, a public markets investment and real-estate holding company with an operational arm called Indy Brands. Through Indy Brands, Davis’s team acquires, scales and sells top-performing home-service businesses across the United States. The first brands under its umbrella include Davis Painting, SUDS Power Washing, Light Your Night, and Honest Roofing. This diversified portfolio allows Indy Capital to share resources, marketing expertise and management best practices across complementary companies, creating efficiencies that independent operators cannot easily achieve.

Davis attributes his success to a commitment to people. “We only win when our team members win,” he often says. Every acquisition focuses on retaining and growing staff, offering clear career paths and ongoing training. That philosophy stems from his early days on job sites where he saw talented tradespeople undervalued. Today, Indy Capital’s growth plans include more acquisitions in painting, roofing, outdoor living and power-washing services, but Davis remains adamant that expansion won’t come at the expense of company culture.

Earlier this year Dennis Yu and I taught a high-end mastermind how we combine AI, SOPs, and SEO so an agency can deliver without the founder living in every task. The private 43-minute replay is no longer public. I am not going to embed a ghost. Here is the write-up from that room, plus a public session that teaches the same stack.

That YouTube is DigiMarCon NYC, not the mastermind. Same teachers. Same factory. If you came for the replay button, this is the honest substitute.

Jack Wendt and Dennis Yu during a teaching session
Teaching together. The mastermind recording is gone. The method is not.

What did we actually cover in the mastermind?

Claim and verify a Google Knowledge Panel so the person or the firm is an entity, not a string. Turn transcripts and Zoom calls into articles that can rank. Train assistants on repeatable tasks with SOPs and a QA pass — the McDonald’s fry-machine version of quality, not “the intern will figure it out.” Move from hustle to a factory so you can take more clients without lighting yourself on fire.

Dennis’s line from that day, which I still use: AI will not replace you. Someone using AI will. Most owners still try to grow by hunting more clients. The constraint is delivery. Every SOP, every transcript, every assistant you train is a permanent asset in the Content Factory.

What should you do with this if you cannot watch the original?

Watch the NYC session above. Then read the first-person Knowledge Panel article: Claiming your Knowledge Panel at DigiMarCon. If you have a young adult who should be running this on a live account, that is the AI Apprentice Program.

I run this through High Rise Influence. Dennis Yu is the partner in the room. Power Hour and the Knowledge Panel package live on our teaching sites if you want the paid implementation, not another pep talk. The public method is Dollar a Day on proof that already works.

Build one assistant. Document the task. Claim the panel. Embed your own videos in articles the way this page does — that last step is not decoration. It is how Google and the assistants see you teaching.
